Lazy Days and Quality Time

Aaahh...President's Day. A free day off work. And now a relaxing day to spend with my oldest daughter. We started the day with repeated orders from DD (Daddy Dearest - meant with the deepest affection) to finish laundry and clean. Poor, poor DD. He knows his girls well. I guess this time he thought this time we would take his
repeated requests to heart and actually follow through if he repeated them again. And again. And, yes, again.

When Gigi and I finally pulled ourself out of our cartoon induced coma, we really had great intentions. We started a load of laundry. Folded the load in the dryer. Then we decided to attack the *eek* closet in the playroom. People, there are things in that closet that haven't seen the light of day since 1995. I don't kid. Three, count them THREE, size 4 dresses that made their way into the princess dress up chest. Some stamp sets that I was going to give to a friend from a friend, oh, like, five years ago. DD's box of martial arts stuff. That once I realized I touched, I quickly looked around the room before hastily replacing it on the shelf. Because lets face it: the grasshopper knows.

By the time we finished the closet, it was getting close to - oh - 9:30ish and we were pooped. We called DD to see if he wanted to meet for lunch and spent the next hour dollin' ourselves up and watching some freak on the Price is Right fall down on stage. His boo-tay was exposed but blurred to protect our sensibilities. Gigi especially liked this, so we re-wound and re-watched at least a zillion times.

After lunch and assuring DD that we had made some major *cough, cough* progress on the laundry, we avised DD that we needed a new mop for the kitchen floor and proceeded to the nearest department store to take advantage of The President's Day Sale. Gigi got some fab new outfits, showing her graciousness by making sure that we included one new outfit for Mimi. And Mommy got two shiny new pair of - wait for it- black shoes. Sigh. I know. I'm working on it.

We did get a mop, just not from that store and we only bought it for evidence. We have no intention of using it anytime soon. Except to pretend it's a horse so Gigi has props when we pretend she is country musics hottest sensation.

Exhausted when we finally arrived home, Gigi fell into a deep slumber while Mommy read a book. And thought about doing laundry. Poor DD. He's the best husband in the world. He didn't even blink when he got home and noticed the basket still full. He thanked me for cooking dinner and made a overly zealous inspection of the closet which had Gigi tickled pink. Even Mimi got into the spirt by sparing us five seconds from her Dora facination to tell DD that she helped (which, of course she didn't because SHE WAS AT SCHOOL!!). Man, I love that kid.

All in all, it was a great day. Gigi and Mommy bonded. Over shoes. And we all felt better thinking we'd foiled DD with our half a$$ attempts at following orders. It was a beautiful thing.

I personally think that Gigi's selflessness and willingness to buy an outfit for Mimi is amazing. No truer example of self sacrifice has ever been known.
